Pre-Piano Group Class

Duration & Schedule: 45 minute weekly classes in an 8-week session
Class Size: Three to Seven Students
Class Eligibility: Students ages 4-6 years, minimal or no experience with Piano
Cost: $260 per 8-week session Fee + $30 Materials Fee
Curriculum: “Music for Little Mozarts”  Lesson & Workbook by Alfred Publisher

The purpose of this class is to familiarize our young students with basic components of music: melody, harmony, and rhythm, as those are necessary pre-requisites for continued musical growth and enjoyment throughout life. They are introduced to "call and response" singing and playing, use of percussion instruments, and access to our Yamaha piano lab. They will also have exposure to concert and performance etiquette such as appropriate audience behavior and cheering each other on by being brave in music exploration.

Piano is an ideal instrument for acquiring the language of music through the senses of sight, touch and hearing. Children can see what they are doing both at the keyboard and on the printed page. They can touch the keys and hear an audio response. Learning musical patterns and elements at this young age establishes a solid musical foundation for piano, and any other musical activities in the future.

Pre-Piano can be attended from one to three  8-week sessions before a student moves into private or partner lessons. Although our Pre-Piano teachers instruct based off of a respected curriculum, they are constantly adjusting to the progression of their class and keep in close contact with parents to make suggestions specific to a student's needs. Private lessons are much more structured and a larger commitment than our Pre-Piano class. While many of our pre-piano students go on to taking private piano lessons, the skills learned in the class can also prepare students for voice lessons and other instrumental lessons.
