Student Spotlight:
Bardiya Niknam
My favorite instrument is the piano, which I’ve been playing for 12 years now. My favorite song is Chopin’s Ballade no. 1 in G Minor Op. 23. I’ve taken lessons here since I was 11 years old. The best teachers that iI’ve ever had were at this school, notably Seho Young and Martha Yelenosky. I worked with Seho Young for about a year, and he significantly helped improve my technique more than anyone else and ability to tackle difficult pieces. Martha, who I worked with since I first started out at this music school, played a significant part in my development into the musician that I am today. She taught me not only how to play better, but to at the same time love and appreciate the music that I play. With her help and support, I was able to overcome my stage fright and play with joy whenever I want. I will cherish her lessons and carry them with me to college and the rest of my life. To me, playing music is like entering my own little haven. Whenever I am stressed, angry, or sad, music is something that I can turn to to give myself peace. Anytime I sit at the piano, nothing else matters, and I can express my emotions through my playing and find happiness.
