Music Conservatory of Illinois

Our unique in-house challenge program T.I.M.E ("The Intellect's Music Exam") is a year-long plan of studies that covers the foundational aspects of a well-rounded musical education: musicianship (performance), theory and technique. While the AIM exam has a pre-established structure that is imposed upon every student, we want to offer an alternative in-house that will allow us to tailor the content and the timeline to our student’s unique set of skills for no extra fee

With T.I.M.E. in mind, we will be respecting their individual pace while making sure they do not miss on what they need in order to take the next step in their development. We acknowledge that it is important for students to have clear goals and structured learning. This in-house opportunity will offer that while allowing the student to participate in the choice of repertoire. The technical and theoretical portion will support and complement the challenges faced in the repertoire.

In practical terms, we will choose a theory method for each student that fits their needs to be completed by the end of the year; choose three contrasting pieces of different styles taking into account the student’s interest and allowing for a broader array of styles than what the AIM permits; define technical challenges to better prepare them for a satisfying and successful completion of the program. The exams will be evaluated by the director and those students who successfully complete their program will receive certificates and an AP Music Theory Grade by the end of the school year. This will be a more flexible experience that will hopefully result in a more enjoyable process for each individual.
